“No one knows how difficult our lives have been. We don’t have the means to save our child. So we have to watch him suffer alone,” cries Mantasha Bano (Anas’s Mother).
In Sirathu, one of the oldest towns in Kaushambi (Uttar Pradesh), Chand Babu and his wife are bracing themselves for another uphill journey. Their 10-year-old son, Anas, is suffering from a life-threatening illness and they have no money for his treatment.
Anas first started presenting symptoms of his illness when he was only five years old. With each passing year, his health has continued to worsen. Initially, they arranged funds for his treatment by using their savings and loans. But the cost of Anas’s treatment and number of procedures he needs has only increased over time.

“I work as a laborer. My daily income is Rs.300. If my work and wages were steady then that would be another story. But I have to sit at home for months without a job when there is no work,” says Chand Babu (Anas’s father).
Both Chand Babu and Mantasha wish for their child’s speedy recovery. But a poor family that has been overwhelmed by years of medical expenses cannot raise Rs 25 lakhs alone. Their dire financial straits have been made worse by the fact that their son is running out of time each day they are unsuccessful at bringing in more money.
